Another set of jazz vibraphone pieces from J.C. Combs. The first piece, Max, was written for a friend of Combs who had recently died and is meant to capture his spirit. The second movement, First Kiss, is a ìmusical nod to that moment of youth when you experience your first romance.î The third movement, Whitewashed, is ìa rather twisted attempt at ragtime. It tries to symbolically represent some of the liberties that some composers took with this form during the early minstrel show years.î Pedal and mallet dampening are indicated throughout. You can hear a recording of "Three Pieces" on J.C. Combsí CD, ìAlone At Last!î
