Mokete is a short, festive work for percussion. The title derives from the Sotho word for celebration. The main theme of the work, based on the Xhosa praise song Lizalis' indigna lakho, is heard three times, in increasingly elaborate form, against rhythmic patterns typical of some sub-Saharan music.
