The new Drum Channel DVD The Century Project is the culmination of a journey that began a dozen years ago, when Daniel Glass started researching the evolution of the drums and the way we play them. Through his research, he came to a startling conclusion: if we understand more about the drum set, we can understand the origin of every style of popular music we play and listen to today: jazz, rock, blues, hip-hop, funk, reggae, etc. The DVD takes the viewer on a 100-year thrill ride, from 1865 at the end of the Civil War right up to 1965 and the dawn of the British Invasion. It shows how drums and pop music evolved hand-in-hand, and how, by 1965, the drumming blueprint that we still follow to this day had been cemented.

"A 5-Star masterpiece! With The Century Project Daniel Glass has successfully condensed 100 years of U.S. drumming and drumset evolution into an impactful three-hour documentary. For fans of my DVD History of the U.S. Beat, Daniel’s presentation is the full-length, big-budget version, which covers a wider time period and includes more detail. Daniel’s refined and swinging playing embodies the history of U.S. music, and the excellent band examples bring the story to life. Not only should all drummers own this DVD, all musicians should own this DVD!"
- Steve Smith

"Every now and then, a book, CD, or DVD comes along that is so important and monumental that everyone in the percussion world should be made aware of it. This is one of those DVDs. At last, we have an excellent presentation of the evolution of the drumset, beginning in 1865 and progressing to what is essentially the modern set that developed in the mid-1960s."
