Funketude for Multi-Percussion Solo - 4 Min.; Bass Drum, 2 Toms, 2 Bongos, 2 Brake Drums, Cowb., Hi-Hat; schwer
Funketude (originally P. Edwin Funk) was written in 1989 for Paul Surowiak who played the first performance in September, 1990. The piece consists of a set of variations in a moto perpetuo style framed by sections featuring gestures separated by extended rests. The "funk" in the title refers to the general rhythmic phrasing and the implied "groove" throughout the work.
