Strands of Time is a marching snare drum solo written specifically for the concert hall by Brian Blume. It is accompanied by a prerecorded audio soundscape which weaves the acoustic sound into a futuristic digital realm. The title refers to the idea of multiple strands (or threads) of live and electronic music that intertwine and blend to create a unified whole. The piece requires precise tempo mastery and rudimental control. Accompaniment is provided in digital audio format and a variety of setup suggestions are given.
Score includes a CD-Rom containing audio accompaniment files and various setup suggestions.

Composed in 2009, Rumble of the Drum is a technically challenging but musically satisfying solo snare drum piece. With four contrasting sections, section one begins powerfully with contrasting dynamics and groovy metric modulations. It is vital for the performer to execute these metric modulations in order for section two to be played at the correct tempo and feel, which is quite heavily rudimental. In contrast to section two, section three is written with a cadenza-like feel in mind. Here, the performer is able to really show-off their musicianship with extended techniques such as stick-on-stick or hitting the rim of the snare drum. The last section is almost a recapitulation of section two, with a short coda at the end of it.
Rumble of the Drum would be a perfect concert piece for any tertiary student, as it would show an enormous palette of technical and musical abilities.
Time Zones - Five Concert Pieces for Snare Drum - ca. 15 Min.; 5 Solostücke, schwer
The five solos for unaccompanied snare drum in "Time Zones" are intended to be used primarily as concert pieces in percussion recitals. The pieces were composed to be complimentary, so that any number of them - from one to five - can be performed in any combination. Thanks to worldwide advances in communications, percussion performance in all musical genres has been the beneficiary of an amazing acceleration in technical capabilities. These solos are intended for advanced players. The technical challenges here largely have to do with differentiating among the variety of sounds that the snare drum is capable of producing.
