Yes We Kant pour marimba (et voix) - 6'14 Min.; 4 mallets, contemporary music, Text by Immanuel Kant, spoken and sung by the marimba-player, advanced

Text by Emmanuel Kant : Critik der Urteilskraft / Critique of Judgement (1790).

To Gabriele von Beckerath

...where one will remember a great philosopher and a Lied by Hugo Wolf.

Composed for the french percussion player Jean Geoffroy, this work is at the same time an instrumental study for the marimba, an evocation of Emmanuel Kant and that of the Lied in the last german romansticism.

In the instrumental study, fast arpeggios and chords sequences succeed, disturbed by hummed lines and mechanic readings which set the performer in a musical theater context. Emmanuel Kant is evocated on a humoristic mode, with texts uttered at the rate of a machine gun, completely disconnected from the philosophical sense. There is also the distanced reading of a Lied by Hugo Wolf : Auf ein altes Bild. Whose melodic snatches float on the ridge of the initial arpeggios, or in the melodies sketched by the performer, while his harmonic substratum gives a structure to the whole piece. All this gives to Yes we Kant the character of a joyful and at the same time strongly srtuctured and merrily irreverent music.
