The Level System - 52 P.; A natural drum technique method for developing control of accents and dynamics, different strokes, Rudiments, Flams, Rolls, Drumset Applications; Text engl.
This book is an overview of the level system as taught by George Lawrence Stone and Joe Morello. Use of this method will allow the performer to transition instantly between accented and unaccented notes. The level system is unlike most other methods of drumming because the hands always prepare for the upcoming note one stroke in advance by utilizing full strokes, downstrokes, upstrokes, and taps. This allows the drummer to perform within an extreme dynamic range while remaining free of tension. The Level System will prove to be a valuable aid to the drummer who has experience on the instrument but wishes to further develop a natural technique. It can also be an important tool for the beginning student first learning the techniques and rudiments of drumming. Drumset players will benefit from both the hand exercises and the drumset exercises in the last chapters.

This isn’t your granddaddy’s book of rudimental solos!
The drum solos of yesteryear have a very limited vocabulary: 26 rudiments and perhaps a
dynamic or two. The world has changed a lot in the past 40 years – from vinyl to tape to
disc, from rotary phones to fax to internet – and today’s rudimental drumming vocabulary
has dramatically changed as well!
Rudiments have evolved from learning a standard list to infinite possibilities. Rhythmic
understanding has progressed from basic 8ths and 16ths to odd meters, 5’s and 7’s. Tempos
have advanced to the extremes as has dynamic control. Today’s rudimental drummer needs
to learn more than a handful of rudiments to be successful – he or she needs to be exposed
to today’s contemporary literature.
Grounded in the past, with an eye to the future,
Scott Johnson knows a thing or two about how to play the drum – and how to teach others to
do the same. With over 40 years of performing and teaching at the highest levels of marching
percussion, Scott rolls his vast experience into this collection of fifteen graduated solos –
which will take your playing from a solid foundation to the cutting edge of contemporary
rudimental drumming!
Including: Video DVD packed with instructional content and performances by Scott Johnson!

A Tribute to Charley - 64 S.; 50 Rudimental Solos als Hommage an Charley Wilcoxon, mittel bis schwer, auch ungerade Taktarten und Jazz-Feeling; Text englisch/german
A Tribute to Charley – 50 Rudimental Solos is Sperie Karas‘ salute to drumming legend Charley Wilcoxon. As a former student of Wilcoxon, Sperie knows his style and approach firsthand. The 50 musically detailed snare drum solos feature classic rudimental drumming à la Wilcoxon, but with a modern twist. In addition to solos in 2/4, 4/4 and 6/8 time, odd time signatures are also represented, the pieces are dynamically refined, and meter changes or swing feel can be found as well as ideas for interpretation and execution on the drum set. This opens up a contemporary perspective and provides a unique opportunity to improve your own rudimental drumming with new, inspiring impulses. Fascinating!
