Der blinde “Glockenspielmeister” des Utrechter Dom-Turmes und des St. Jans-Turmes Jacob van Eyck (1590-1657) unterhielt laut Verordnung des Stadtrates die Spaziergänger auf dem St. Jans Friedhof gelegentlich mit seiner Flöte. Der phantasiereiche Musiker komponierte für Blockflöte zwei Hefte mit dem Ttiel “Der Fluyten Lusthof”. Die Stücke sind Psalm-, Volkslied- und Volkstanzmelodien, durch Variationen erweitert. Diese Auswahl, bedingt durch die technischen Schwierigkeiten eines Anfänger-Malletspielers, folgt den Originalstücken. Das betrifft auch das Fehlen der Dynamik und der Aufführungsvorschriften. Der kleine Tonumfang ermöglicht, die Stücke sowohl auf dem Xylophon und der Marimba als auch auf dem Glockenspiel und dem Vibraphon zu spielen.
