„The Junior Drummer’s Bible“, das dritte Buch von John Trotter, ist der kleine Bruder von seinem Erstlingswerk „The Working Drummer“ (AMA-Nr. 610454). Dieses Buch enthält die in seiner langjährigen Arbeit mit fünf- bis zehnjährigen Schülern gesammelten Notizen und Übungen in vereinfachter Schlagzeugnotation. Daher finden sich in den Übungen dieses Buches nur Grooves und Rudiments mit Halben, Viertel- und Achtelnoten.

Die „Junior Drummer‘s Bible“ folgt einem ähnlichen Weg wie der „Working Drummer“ und lehrt kindgerecht die Grundlagen der Stockhaltung, der Notation (Taktarten, Noten- und Pausenwerte, Dynamik) und die ersten Rudiments. Ausführlich geht der Autor auf die populären Musikstile, darunter Latin, Samba, Rumba, Rock, Funk, Blues und Swing, Soul, Disco und Punk ein und zeigt den Schülern, welche Grooves man mit den verschiedenen Instrumenten des Drumsets spielen kann. Dabei sind die Kapitel so aufgebaut, dass die Übungen jeweils um ein zusätzliches Instrument erweitert werden. Ein Kapitel über fortgeschrittene Konzepte und ausnotierte Soli in den verschiedenen Musikstilen gibt dem Schüler einen Ausblick darauf, wie das Schlagzeug als Solo- und Begleitinstrument eingesetzt werden kann.

Dieses Buch kann von Lehrern eingesetzt werden, die in ihren Unterrichtsstunden zeitgemäße Konzepte in vereinfachter Notation vermitteln möchten.
