The distinctive sounds produced by diverse performance techniques on the marimba form a bridge between musical styles which, considered individually, might seem incompatible.
Regarding performance with vibraphone
In the part marked “freely” no tremolo should be used. The remainder of the piece is up to the discretion of the performer. Only a few of the marimba tremolo passages should be taken over by the vibraphone.
