Kreutzer Etudes Vol. One for Marimba - 16 etudes, 2 mallets; intermediate to advanced
Specs
Musical Features
Etudes are (purposely) given few dynamic or phrase markings, though students are encouraged to add their own.
Many of the etudes are marked with wide tempo ranges.
Some of the etudes can stand alone musically, whereas others are better suited for technical study.
Variety of major keys, up to 4 sharps and 3 flats, as well as two minor keys (a and d) Time signatures are straightforward: 4/4, 3/4, 12/8, 6/8, cut time.
Technical Features
The first page of the book outlines the “problem” or technique addressed with each etude. Several focus on smooth hand-to-hand motion using either LH or RH lead. Others focus on arpeggios, broken octaves, double-stops, double-sticking, trills, chorales, rubato, and independence of hands.
All etudes are edited with sticking suggestions and can be played with 2 mallets.
Duration
16 total etudes, each ranging in duration from 1-3 minutes
